More and more new channels are being planned for the Telugu audience, both by the existing ones and new entrants. In this season of mushrooming channels and migrations among patrakaars, managements have only one mantra to retain staff – pay hikes. DC just finished administering a dose of hike to its staff (The English daily has to lure talent from Telugu media and retain them!). ETV2, TV9 Maa TV and Andhra Jyothi are set to announce increased pay for the staff.
Many thanks to NTV, TV5 and Surya. Their promoters may be shady characters but they have forced the ‘nobility’ of media managements to stop being seedy and offer a better deal to the journalists. Even Andhra Prabha gave a rise!
ETV2: After the recent first-time-ever hike for Eenadu employees, ETV2 guys have been awaiting the good news with crossed fingers. Their turn has come. ETV2 employees salaries would be revised to peg the pay for beginners at around Rs 9,500 pm. Post hikes the bureau chief’s salary might touch Rs 20,000. Not really a competitive deal! Let’s see if the move arrests the flight of talent.
TV9: The channel is currently in trouble. After a good number of talented staff left for newbies and a couple of seniors had unsavoury exits (corruption charges, land deals!), confusion reigns supreme at the channel. The channel is short staffed and any fresh exits would have it in pits. Already, it is over depending on Deepthi Vajapeye, Rajnikant, and Badriprasad.
Take a look at what they dish out. A 30-min special feature on Elephant Caves (Mumbai)! No context, no reason or rhyme. Content deficit is the reason.
As a norm, TV9 does appraisals in August and announces new pay packs. This year however Raviprakash has decided to advance the process to April. Given the situation, the staff expectations are high. They have their options clear on what to do if the increase falls short of expectations. Many are already sitting on offers from competition. Await action.
At Maa TV appraisals are on. The original plan was to announce hikes to the staff on April 23 but the management later decided to deposit the revised salaries in the bank, which should be today or tomorrow. The staff are readying fireworks. Maa too is in a state of flux after some seniors like Forest Srinivas were eased out. Writer and feminist Koppili Padma now heads department of soap operas at Maa.
Andhra Jyothi: The year 2007 has started off on a wrong note for Jyothi. It has already witnessed desertions and apprehends more in the coming days. The management is said to be considering a pay revision, for the second time within a year!
Poor folks at Andhra Bhoomi, the media trend is passing them by. Kurnool reporter Ankam Ravi’s exit might give ideas to at least a few.

What a pleasant news for poor scribes dear vikramjee...
A simple formula could be re adjustment of scribes who have lost job satisfaction in their present organisations to jump in to a new boat. print and electronic media journalists can cross fence according to their bargaining power and ideological affinities. for example persons with centre-left inclinations could try their luck in TV9 and Andhra jyothi. likewise rightwingers and K-B connection holders can try their best with NTV and andhra prabha etc. Inhuman EENADU management could not hold even right minded kammas with it. for example yarlagadda raghavendra 's resignation as magazines incharge and j. chandrasekhar's shift to NTV. some more resignations are awaited from EENADU. ramana murty, vakkalanka ramana etc have deep seated bitter feelings and have several offers. they are just waiting for high court's judjement on journalist housing sites. once the judgement is pronounced ... CM should rush his machinary to allot each of some 500 odd more journalists 30-50 lakh rs worth plots so that he can demolish a media moghul silently without much efforts.
btw more bhakthi channels are to be launched soon which will give mukthi to some jobless journos. Maa tv has some expansion plans. asianet , star etc in E segment, and surya, sakshi etc in print medium will give carrier lift to some more scribes. any way this is swarna yugam for poor scribes who lost their bargaining power and self respect due to ill treatment, cotractulisation, disappearance of trade unions and subvertion of labour laws by managements thanks to ramojee's pro capital innovative models ably aided by leftwing kamma journalists. let god almighty shower his blessings on our journalist brothers and sisters in these turbulent times.
good write-up.More channels..more prospects for journos. Yet there could have more details. The salary hike should commensurate with experience and performance. The output of some of the journos are dismal. They just come to office like picnic. And they expect huge pay packets and hike. Is this justifiable ? Politicking...chit-chatting...gossping do these qualities bring salary hike ? YES.. for eg. you can see them in MAATV. Don't do anyhting and enjoy the benefits. Poor CEO..let him understand.

What i observed in our field is that Manu dharma is more strictly followed here than eny where else. few coteries only survive in both journalism profession and its related trade unions and press clubs. brahmin's domination is significant. among sudras only reddys and neo-brahmin kammas hold the sway. there is no significant representation of KAPU, OBC, SC,ST and minority communities. EENADU never recruited a dalit as a journalist.Thanks to ANNE BHAVANI KRISHNA PRASAD (ABK ) and later his sisya VELICHETI RAVIPRAKASH ( interestingly both are left wing kammas) several under represented segments got a place in this profession. In english media along with brahmin lobby , kerala and christian etc coteries play the key role. this anomaly should be rectified so as to bring back creativity and to infuse pro-people attitude in to our noble profession. making a news paper a particular caste bastion will lead to severe damage to our already ailed society.

For your information, There is no hike in MAA TV as of now. One more news is that MAA TV cuttig down its news bulletins to 2 or 3 soon. So some are becaming jobless again.
A lot written about all newspapers and apprisal time but what about poor scribes of rich Times of India? No body seems to be talking about them. The Times jobs.com ad shows a boss offering a box of incentive to employee and when he opens it it contains pea nuts. Thats what Times does to its employees. Help them out blog owners.

Appropos a previous comment in this posting i want to add a bit of relevant information. Till recently D.N.Prasad was designated as a senior manager.Initially he was not bothered about the gopan pally plot when its value was not more than 5 lakhs. But last year saw a steep increase in real estate values and this site touched half A Crore mark. Immediately Rahul and DN got alerted and over night D.N. was re disgnated as Head News co -ordination so as to give him a journalistic face lift.This move was to thwart any rival camp's attempt to protest this allotment. In fact senior journalists such as pasham yadagiri know a lot about the misdeeds of rahul and co. Rahul has alloted a site even to a worker of the society ( srinivas) and later got it resold to his own relative for a throw away price of 3 lakhs. He even alloted a plot to an IAS during babu regime. With his clout Rahul got his wife transferred on deputation from prisons dept to secretariate and later got that posting regularised. This great VIRASAM Thinker poses as if he is a rajahamsa among the Eenadu ducks.What a tragicamic scenerio is unfolding...

many ETV2 guys are not happy at the present hike. If the management thinks they can stop them from finding greener pastures they are mistaken. some of them have left after the hike. and some are ready to follow suit. Main reason is the harassment of sastry(news coordinator) and redundant Sridhar(manager). To be frank Sridhar is not aware of the tactics implemented by sastry. poor fellow thinks that sastry is just loud mouthed. But the fact is he creates troubles to sridhar and watches the thamasha. Papam sridhar ee vishayalu eppudu thelusukuntado emito.
